Collecting knives by Blade Design/Type
This is another popular way of collecting knives. Knives have been produced for different uses, and their blade shape and design vary significantly according to their usage purpose. Some knife collectors like to collect knives by their design: Balisongs, Bayonets, Bowies, Daggers, Hunting, Clip-point knives, while others prefer to group their knife collection according to knife type, genre or usage purpose - Military, Hunting, Kitchen, Skinning, Divers, Pilot Survival knives, etc.
Here is a knife collection organised by blade design, as a collection of military bayonets:

One good thing about collecting is this manner is that you are not just limited to one knife brand, knife color, or era. For example, when collecting Bowie knives, one can have knives from Al Mar, Cold Steel, Randall, SOG and others who manufacture Bowie knives. For Military-themed knives, one can have knives from Busse, Gerber, Ka-Bar, Ontario and so on. You can also have knives from different eras like WWI, WWII, Vietnam War, etc.

No matter what knife type/design you plan to collect, this is one of the easier way to begin collecting knives because you can acquire knives based on what knife you like, rather than limiting yourself to one brand or model. So, you can have a nice collection of military knives, skinner knives, or daggers for example.
